തെറ്റുകൾ തിരിച്ചറിയുക

ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇന്ത്യക്കാ൪ സാധാരണ വരുത്താറുള്ള അബദ്ധങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഇംഗ്ലീഷുകാ൪ നല്‍കിയിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു ഓമനപ്പേരാണ് , ‘ഇന്‍ഡ്യനിസംസ്’. ഇന്‍ഡ്യനിസങ്ങള്‍ പല വകുപ്പുകളില്‍ പെട്ടതായുണ്ട്. ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഭാഷ പഠിച്ചിട്ടും അതിലെ പ്രയോഗങ്ങള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ച് പഠിക്കാത്തതുകൊണ്ട് വരുന്ന അബദ്ധങ്ങളാണ് ബഹുഭൂരിപക്ഷവും.

കഴിഞ്ഞ ലക്കത്തിൻറെ തുടർച്ചയാണീ അദ്ധ്യായത്തിൽ :

ELDER, OLDER

Elder എന്നത് സഹോദരന്മാരിലും സഹോദരിമാരിലും മൂത്തയാള്‍ എന്ന അ൪ത്ഥം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. കൂടുതല്‍ പ്രായമുള്ള എന്ന അ൪ത്ഥം സൂചിപ്പിക്കാ൯ Older ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.മാത്രമല്ല Older than എന്നും elder to എന്നുമാണ് പ്രയോഗങ്ങള്‍. ഉദാ;He is my brother and elder to me. He is older than his boss.

I AND HE

ഞാനും അയാളും ഇന്നലെ ഒരു കാറില്‍ സഞ്ചരിക്കയായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ മലയാളത്തില്‍ തെറ്റൊന്നുമില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷില്‍ I and he were travelling in a car എന്നു പറയുന്നത് തെറ്റാണ്. ഇത്തരം സന്ദര്‍ഭങ്ങളില്‍ ‘I’ രണ്ടാമതായെ പറയാവൂ എന്നതാണ് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മര്യാദ. He and I were travelling in a car എന്നു വേണം പറയാന്‍.

ഇനി മറ്റു ചില അബദ്ധങ്ങളിലേക്കു കടക്കാം.

Singular – Plural

ചില ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് നാമ പദങ്ങള്‍ ഒരിക്കലും Plural form –ല്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാറില്ല. SCENERY (പ്രകൃതി ദൃശ്യം) LUGGAGE( യാത്രയ്ക്ക് കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്ന പെട്ടി സഞ്ചി മുതലായവ) FURNITURE (കസേര, മേശ തുടങ്ങിയവ) എന്നിവ ആ വകുപ്പില്‍ പെടുന്നു.ഇവയൊക്കെ plural form-ല്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കണമെന്ന് നിര്‍ബന്ധമുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അതിനൊരു പോംവഴി ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലുണ്ട്. Kinds of scenery, Pieces of furniture, Pieces of advice, types of fish എന്നൊക്കെ പ്രയോഗിക്കാം.മറിച്ച് NEWS എന്ന പദം singular ആയി മാത്രമേ ഉപയോഗിക്കൂ. NEWSES എന്ന് ഉപയോഗിക്കാറില്ല.

തെറ്റിന് ഉദാഹരണങ്ങള്‍ – (ശരിയായ പ്രയോഗം bracketല്‍ കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.)

1. The sceneries there did not appeal to me (The scenery there did not appeal to me)

2. I have bought some new furnitures. (I have ………..furniture)

3. I have packed my luggages (I have ….. luggage)

4. He gave me many advices(He gave me much advice)

5. This river is full of fishes ( This river………..fish)

6. These are good newses (This is good news)

Tag questions.

c) It is very late, isn’t it? എന്നു ചോദിക്കുന്നത് ശരിയായ പ്രയോഗമാണ്. (അയാള്‍ വളരെ വൈകിപ്പോയി , അല്ലേ?) പക്ഷെ They are very late, isn’t it? എന്ന് ചോദിച്ചാല്‍ അബദ്ധമാവുന്നു.മലയാളത്തില്‍ Tag questions, അല്ലേ , ഇല്ലേ എന്നൊക്കെയാണ്. verb-നനുസരിച്ച് അവ മാറുന്നില്ല. പക്ഷെ ഇംഗ്ലീഷില്‍ അത് മാറിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈയിനത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ട തെറ്റായ കുറെ പ്രയോഗങ്ങള്‍ താഴെ ചേര്‍ക്കുന്നു. Bracket ല്‍ ശരിയായ പ്രയോഗവും.

1. They are good, isn’t it? (They are good, aren’t they)

2. They are not intelligent, isn’t it (They are not intelligent, are they?)

3. He will come, isn’t it. (He will come, won’t he?)

4. She will not come, isn’t it. (She will not come, will she?)

5. They can do it, isn’t it? (They can do it, can’t they?)

6. Let us do it, isn’t it? (Let us do it, shall we?)
